HOT TICKET
DANCE - Contemporary Ballet Dallas at McFarlin

Author: MARGARET PUTNAM

The surest way to make a statement in ballet is not tutus or the lack of tutus. It's music. Contemporary Ballet Dallas capitalizes on the offbeat, ranging from vaudeville accordion music to the Red Hot Chili Peppers to Prodigy. "Terpsichore's World" features three premieres, two drawing on music by Dallas neoclassical string quartet NEO Camerata, and the third on an original composition for guitar and bass by Mark Thompson. Valerie Shelton Tabor's Sins of Niobe is set to NEO Camerata's "Vokante Heroa: A Hero's Life." In artistic director Kelley Calhoon's Torn, the musicians interact with the dancers to the music of the quartet's "Celestial Calling." Erica Santiago's Full Circle features original music. Also on the program are Holly Williams' Jelly Beans, Ms. Calhoon's Out of the Zone and Cynthia Anne Stanley's Source.

Saturday at 8 p.m. at McFarlin Auditorium
Hillcrest and McFarlin, Southern Methodist University.
